CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION JUNE 7, 2000 <br />for traffic volume increases within the County for a ten-year period. Mr. Olson <br />highlighted the improvements within the County that are scheduled for the next 3-5 years. <br />He noted the timing of the Highway 49 project is critical to the County's improvement <br />plans. He added the County is obliged to build a four -(4) lane road when traffic <br />projections are over 15,000 vehicle per day. The project is justified by means of current <br />travel and anticipated travel. Non -County funds are available at this time. <br />Mr. Olson stated he understands the project will have a negative impact on some people. <br />The County has real estate people to make fair compensations. It is the County's <br />responsibility to develop sound transportation plans for the County. <br />Council Member Carlson advised the City's proposed Comprehensive Plan shows <br />Highway 49 as an undivided four -(4) lane highway. She asked what role the proposed <br />Plan plays in the project. <br />Staff advised they will have to research the discussions regarding the d tion of a <br />four (4) lane undivided highway. <br />Council Member Carlson inquired about the authority of th <br />Mr. Olson stated State law provided that the City h uth• ,, to approve a plan <br />when the County changes the grade or cross sec 'o hic as ccurred. Mr. <br />Olson advised project and risk is part of the appraisal but is not a set number. <br />Mayor Bergeson advised the Council will take public comment.
