CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION JUNE 7, 2000 <br />• Increased speeds <br />• Safety of children in the area <br />• Increased noise <br />• Homes too close to the roadway <br />• Need for a bike trail <br />• No signal lights at County Road J intersection <br />• Project too costly <br />• Loss of businesses <br />• Loss of wildlife <br />• Loss of rural community <br />• Increase in crime <br />• Increased danger of crossing four (4) lanes of traffic <br />• Water quality and additional pollutants <br />• Fair compensation for loss of property <br />• Border issues with neighboring cities <br />• "Bottle neck" effect of dumping four (4) lanes of traffic into two <br />and north end <br />• Lack of planning with Ramsey County <br />• The idea of the project being "all or nothing" <br />Residents raised the following questions: <br />• What comments does the Rice Cree <br />• Do the funds have to be spent n <br />• Do all the funds have to be .� _ s ject? <br />• If the improvements are a . i �-�= nty's overall transportation plan and does the <br />City have a copy of <br />• What does the to `turn ;.. c money mean? <br />• What perce k o' e roadway is from Lino Lakes residents? <br />• Does it m sen to °�nnel traffic into County Road J? <br />• Have we int traffic studies with other communities and do we have that data? <br />the south <br />d isrict have relating to the project? <br />The majority of the residents present requested the City Council represent them regarding <br />this issue. A petition with over 400 signatures opposing the project was presented to <br />Council Members. Many residents requested the Council appoint a Task Force to address <br />transportation issues within the City. <br />Mayor Bergeson excused himself from the meeting at 7:20 p.m. A short recess was <br />called. <br />Acting Mayor Dahl reconvened the meeting at 7:30 p.m. <br />Mr. Olson stated the County has been in contact with the seven -(7) counties in the area. <br />The plans are consistent with the plans received from Ramsey County.
