CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION JULY 19, 2000 • Mr. Ron Batty, Consultant, came forward and reviewed the following points relating to tax abatement: • recent alternative to TIF • is actually a rebate - • can be used for almost any project • commercial is a common use • limited to 5% levy or $100,000 per year • each jurisdiction has veto over its share • new or existing taxes can be rebated • maximum of 15 years (10 if all three in) • schools are unlikely to participate -loss of state aid means tax increase • G.O.
