COUNCIL MINUTES MARCH 11, 2002
and ultimately drive the birds away. He noted there has always been high speed boat traffic south of
the island, including during the time the heron population was flourishing. Therefore, he did not
believe boat traffic caused the birds to leave.
Regarding the benefits of aquatic plants, Mr. Farmerie stated he had been north of the island several
times last summer and found the weeds were too thick to be beneficial. He felt if the water skiing
north of the island created a straight line area of reduced weeds, this would benefit the area and
compensate for the overabundance of weeds elsewhere. However, if the consensus is that high speed
boating north of the island is indeed damaging water quality, then he felt a no -wake zone should
begin at the bog poles, as recommended by the Peltier Lake Association. He believed if the no -wake
zone line is drawn south of the island it will have a negative effect on the value of the lake properties.
He stated when searching for a lake home, he and his wife specifically ruled out lakes with
restrictions since they viewed this as undesirable. Since many other people feel the same way, he
believed the no -wake zone would reduce the number of buyers nterested in living on the lake.
pkv
Mr. Farmerie believed the issue of a no -wake zone had been pr
skiing activity north of the island. He also believed
that his water skiing on Peltier Lake does not disturb a majority of lakeshore owners. He noted the
public safety record by the Lino Lakes Police Chief, which was included in his packet of information.
Mr. Lindner stated, based on this sensitive situation, during the March 4t1 Association meeting, he
had compromised by agreeing to locate his slalom course on the main part of the lake, south of the
island. He noted the Anoka County Sheriff controls the permit process. He added that, during the
Association meeting of March 4th, he and Wayne LeBlanc shook hands and agreed that they disagreed
and to put the past events behind them.
•
Mr. Lindner stated he wished to find out why the heron rookery failed in 2000 and 2001, without
unnecessary blame and restrictions.
