COUNCIL MINUTES JUNE 14, 2004
APPROVED
Councilmember Reinert indicated that since approving the EDAC's action plan would not be
.3336
37 approving any projects, but rather keeps the options available for later Council action, he will support
338 the goals. He added he feels it is prudent to have the EDAC continue working with the Council and
339 Staff to accomplish the goals set forth.
340
341 Mayor Bergeson agreed that approving goals does not give any committee or board authority to spend
342 money. He expressed his appreciation to the committee and indicated he would speak in favor of
343 their goals.
344
345 Councilmember Dahl noted she spoke with one member of the EDAC who was not able to attend the
346 meeting to vote on the goals, and asked Economic Development Assistant Divine to ensure that the
347 member receive a full copy of the goals presented to the Council.
348
349 Mr. Juni clarified the vote was unanimous of those in attendance at the meeting.
350
351 Economic Development Assistant Divine indicated one thing the EDAC is looking for is direction
352 from the Council on where they should spend their time. She stated with regard to public funding,
353 they are wondering if they should pursue that when appropriate, and if it is a place they should be
354 spending their time.
355
356 Vote: 3 Ayes, 2 Nays. Councilmembers Carlson and Dahl opposed.
357
358 Motion carried.
dik 359
RIF 360 Resolution No. 04-77 can be found in the City Clerk's office.
361
362 B. Consider Resolution No. 04-78, Supporting Application for Metropolitan Council
363 Livable Communities Opportunity Grant, I -35E AUAR, Economic Development
364 Assistant Mary Divine
365
366 Economic Development Assistant Divine presented the Staff report, indicating this grant would
367 expand the scope of the Benchmark AUAR to include approximately 1,400 additional acres along
368 35E from Cedar Street to 80th Street.
369
370 Mayor Bergeson thanked Staff for seeking out these grants.
371
372 Councilmember Carlson expressed that she would vote for this if the matching local funds were
373 coming from a development that meets their Comprehensive Plan, but as of now she does not see how
374 the proposed development will do that. She noted that up until now she has voted for all of the
375 Livable Communities grants.
376
377 Councilmember Dahl commented she has never voted for these, and knows Mary Divine understands.
378
379 Councilmember Reinert asked if the AUAR would address the number of houses, to which Economic
380 Development Assistant Divine indicated it does not, but addresses land use.
381
•
8
