1 CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION JULY 24, 2006 <br />APPROVED <br />1 Mr. Neu outlined the proposed process for inviting representatives to participate in the <br />• 2 Community Visioning Committee. Exclusions are members of the City Council, City <br />3 staff and City Planning Commission. <br />4 <br />5 Mr. Neu recommended a theme (branding) be approved by the City Council and indicated <br />6 as much publicity as possible regarding the process would be helpful. <br />7 <br />8 2007 BUDGET PREPARATION PROCESS <br />9 <br />10 City Administrator Heitke reviewed a memo outlining requested contributions from the <br />11 City for 2007. He stated that given the very preliminary data, the City's net tax capacity <br />12 is estimated to have increased by 10.6% over pay 2006. If the City maintains its current <br />13 tax rate of 41.362% of tax capacity, it is estimated the City could levy an additional <br />14 $783,600. <br />15 <br />16 City Administrator Heitke stated any direction from the Council would be helpful going <br />17 into the 2007 budget process. <br />18 <br />19 The Council directed staff to begin the process with a preliminary budget based on the <br />20 current tax rate that also includes a plan for some of the long-term issues the Council has <br />21 discussed. The Council also requested a list of large expenses the City will be incurring <br />22 within the next five years. <br />S23 <br />24 The Council reviewed a proposed calendar of meetings for August and September 2006. <br />25 The following changes were made to the calendar: <br />26 <br />27 Regular Council Work Session, September 4, 2006 — this meeting was postponed to <br />28 September 6, 2006 4:30 p.m. <br />29 <br />30 Financial Work Session, August 9, 2006, 6:00 p.m. <br />31 <br />32 Financial Work Session, August 16, 2006, 6:00 p.m. (if needed) <br />33 <br />34 Budget Work Session, August 21, 2006, 5:30 p.m. <br />35 <br />36 Budget Work Session, September 6, 2006, 5:30 p.m. <br />37 <br />38 The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m. <br />39 <br />40 These minutes were considered, corrected and approved at the regular Council meeting held on <br />41 August 14, 2006. <br />42 <br />43 <br />44 <br />• 45 Julia e Bartell, Cit Clerk John ergeson, Mayor <br />2 <br />
