CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 4A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Public Safety Director John Swenson <br />MEETING DATE: March 9, 2015 <br />TOPIC: Consider Hiring Paid On -Call Firefighter <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The Lino Lakes Public Safety Department is requesting council approval to hire a paid on-call <br />firefighter as Station Chief/Deputy Chief serving the south Lino Lakes fire station. <br />BACKGROUND <br />As directed by Council Resolution 14-50 staff is integrating fire operations into the Public <br />Safety Department. Staff has been engaged in a fire recruiting effort with the focus of <br />identifying and recruiting experienced firefighter. <br />The hiring process has been extensive including an interview process, background <br />investigation, medical examinations, and drug screen. This process has identified candidates <br />that will continue the Public Safety Department's proud tradition of delivering high quality <br />services to the Lino Lakes Community <br />Paul Peltier has 30 years of firefighting experience with the White Bear Lake Fire Department <br />before his retirement in 2014. During Mr. Peltier's career with the White Bear Lake Fire <br />Department he rose through the ranks to serve at the Deputy Chief overseeing the operations of <br />that City's north fire station. Mr. Peltier has extensive experience and certifications related to <br />fire command, training and safety. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends the Council approve the hiring of Paul Peltier for the position of Station <br />Chief/Deputy Chief as a paid on-call fire fighter effective March 10, 2015. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />None <br />
