03/11/15 10:04 AM PENSIONS LD H0298 -E1 <br />1.1 A bill for an act <br />1.2 relating to retirement; Centennial Volunteer Firefighters Relief Association and <br />1.3 adjoining fire departments; authorizing retirement plan accrued liability and <br />1.4 proportional asset transfer upon employment transfer. <br />1.5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: <br />1.6 Draft engrossment of SF298/HF251 with amendment H0298 -2A <br />1.7 Section 1. CENTENNIAL VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS RELIEF <br />1.8 ASSOCIATION; LINO LAKES FIREFIGHTER TRANSFERS. <br />1.9 (a) Notwithstanding any provisions of Minnesota Statutes, chapters 424A and 424B, <br />1.10 to the contrary, if a Centennial Joint Powers Fire Department firefighter elects to become <br />1.11 an emergency on-call firefighter employed by a city or nonprofit firefighting corporation <br />1.12 adjoining the service area of the Centennial Joint Powers Fire Department as of March 1, <br />1.13 2015, between May 1, 2015, until December 31, 2017, the firefighter may elect to transfer <br />1.14 past retirement coverage for prior firefighting service with the Centennial Joint Powers <br />1.15 Fire Department as provided in paragraph (b) and to have prospective firefighting service <br />1.16 treated as a continuation of past firefighting service for vesting and benefit computation <br />1.17 purposes by the volunteer firefighter relief association of the applicable city or nonprofit <br />1.18 firefighting corporation if the bylaws of that relief association so permit or by the voluntary <br />1.19 statewide volunteer firefighter retirement plan if that plan provides retirement coverage <br />1.20 to the applicable fire department. <br />121 (b) If a change in fire department service described in paragraph (a) is made in a <br />122 timely fashion, upon notification by the fire chief of the fire department of the municipality <br />1.23 or nonprofit firefighting corporation described in paragraph (a) to the secretary of the <br />1.24 applicable volunteer firefighter relief association or to the executive director of the Public <br />Section 1. 1 <br />
