CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 6B <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Michael Grochala <br />MEETING DATE: June 9, 2014 <br />TOPIC: Consider Resolution No. 14-54, Authorizing Professional <br />Services to Prepare Amendment to Wellhead Protection Plan <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />Staff is requesting City Council approval to authorize WSB and Associates to prepare the <br />Wellhead Protection Plan Part II Amendment. <br />BACKGROUND <br />In accordance with state law the City is required to amend its Wellhead Protection Plan. The <br />goal of the plan amendment is to prevent human -caused contaminants from entering the water <br />supply wells and to protect all who use the water supply from adverse health effects associated <br />with groundwater contamination. The amendment is broken down into Part I and Part II. Part I <br />was authorized by the City Council in December of 2012 and included the following items: <br />• Delineations of the Wellhead Protection Area (WHPA) <br />• Delineations of the Drinking Water Supply Management Area (DWSMA) <br />• Well and aquifer vulnerability assessments <br />The Part I study has been completed and staff is preparing to initiate the Part II component of <br />the amendment. Part II is required to be completed by March 10, 2015. WSB has submitted a <br />proposal to complete the Part II amendment in the amount of $19,499. Funding for the plan <br />amendment is proposed to come from the City's Trunk Utility Fund. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff is recommending that the City Council adopt Resolution 14-54 authorizing WSB & <br />Associates, Inc. to provide professional engineering services for the Wellhead Protection Plan <br />Amendment Part II. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />1.
