STAFF ORIGINATOR: <br />DATE: <br />TOPIC: <br />VOTE REQUIRED: <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3A <br />Julie Bartell, City Clerk <br />December 9, 2013 <br />First Reading of Ordinance No. 12-13 <br />Establishing the 2014 Fee Schedule <br />3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />In order to provide for a more efficient and timely method of reviewing and adjusting the various <br />fees charged by the City, fees are consolidated into one schedule to be reviewed and adopted on <br />an annual basis. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City's current fee schedule has been circulated to department directors with a request to <br />update or amend the schedule as appropriate for 2014. <br />Ordinance No. 12-13 (the proposed 2014 Fee Schedule) is attached. Recommended amendments <br />to the ordinance are printed in red. The changes proposed for 2013 are outlined below for your <br />review: <br />Updated Police Department fees — Police Department staff have reviewed fees that <br />relate to their services and have updated them to current costs and also removed <br />obsolete charges. <br />Building Permit and Land Use Fees — Staff has adjusted fees to account for <br />inflationary increases; they are generally consistent with neighboring cities. Other <br />non -monetary changes have been made for formatting purposes. <br />The Council approved the first reading of Ordinance No. 12-13 on November 25. Staff is now <br />recommending approval of second reading and publication of the ordinance. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve the second reading of Ordinance No. 12-13, Establishing the 2014 Fee Schedule. <br />
