Authorized city personnel may use reasonable force and go onto private property to take the animal into custody. Authorized city personnel will determine on a case by case basis whether forfeited animals may be destroyed or given to new owners who will adequately care for and control the animal. 503.18 FARM ANIMALS. 1. In addition to the provisions of this chapter, the keeping of farm animals or limited livestock raising may be permitted in rural zoning districts according to the regulations of §1007. 2. An exception shall be made to this subsection for those animals brought into the city as part of an operating zoo, veterinarian clinic, scientific research laboratory, or a licensed show or exhibition. 3. The keeping of farm animals legally existing at the adoption of this ordinance in residential zoning districts may continue to exist as to type and number of animals with the following provisions: a. the current use shall not be expanded; b. the current use shall cease if discontinued for more than a period of one year; c. a violation of any section of this chapter shall cease the current use. 503.19 WILD ANIMALS. It shall be illegal for any person to own, possess, harbor, or offer for sale, any wild animal as defined in Section 503.01 within the City limits. Any owner of such an animal at the time of adoption of this Code shall have thirty days in which to remove the animal from the City after which time the City may impound the animal as provided for in this Section. An exception shall be made to this prohibition for animals specifically trained for and actually providing assistance to the handicapped or disabled, and for those animals brought into the City as part of an operating zoo, veterinarian clinic, scientific research laboratory, or a licensed show or exhibition. 503.20 PENALTY. A violation of any section of Chapter 503 is a misdemeanor. Each day on which a violation continues shall constitute a separate violation. Page 19 of 20
