Authorized city personnel may use reasonable force and go onto private property <br />to take the animal into custody. <br />Authorized city personnel will determine on a case by case basis whether forfeited <br />animals may be destroyed or given to new owners who will adequately care for <br />and control the animal. <br />503.18 FARM ANIMALS. <br />1. In addition to the provisions of this chapter, the keeping of farm animals or limited <br />livestock raising may be permitted in rural zoning districts according to the <br />regulations of §1007. <br />2. An exception shall be made to this subsection for those animals brought into the <br />city as part of an operating zoo, veterinarian clinic, scientific research laboratory, <br />or a licensed show or exhibition. <br />3. The keeping of farm animals legally existing at the adoption of this ordinance in <br />residential zoning districts may continue to exist as to type and number of animals <br />with the following provisions: <br />a. the current use shall not be expanded; <br />b. the current use shall cease if discontinued for more than a period of one year; <br />c. a violation of any section of this chapter shall cease the current use. <br />503.19 WILD ANIMALS. <br />It shall be illegal for any person to own, possess, harbor, or offer for sale, any wild <br />animal as defined in Section 503.01 within the City limits. Any owner of such an animal <br />at the time of adoption of this Code shall have thirty days in which to remove the animal <br />from the City after which time the City may impound the animal as provided for in this <br />Section. An exception shall be made to this prohibition for animals specifically trained <br />for and actually providing assistance to the handicapped or disabled, and for those <br />animals brought into the City as part of an operating zoo, veterinarian clinic, scientific <br />research laboratory, or a licensed show or exhibition. <br />503.20 PENALTY. <br />A violation of any section of Chapter 503 is a misdemeanor. Each day on which a <br />violation continues shall constitute a separate violation. <br />Page 19 of 20 <br />
