Subdivision 1. Purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to promote <br />efficient use of water for lawn sprinkler / irrigation systems to allow the City's Water <br />System flexibility in meeting peak demands. <br />Subdivision 2. Definitions. For the purpose of this ordinance, the <br />following terms shall have the meanings given to them. <br />a. "Backflow Preventer" means any approved mechanical or air <br />gap system designed and installed in order to prevent the <br />accidental backflow of water from one source to another. <br />b. "Lawn Sprinkler/Irrigation System" means all pumps, lines and <br />sprinkler heads which are located on private property or within <br />adjacent public right-of-way that have a sole purpose of <br />irrigating gardens, grass or landscaping. <br />Subdivision 3. Construction of a Lawn Sprinkler / Irrigation System. <br />The location of lines and sprinkler heads for a Lawn and Landscape <br />Irrigation System may be located within private property or the city <br />right-of-way or easement subject to the following conditions: <br />a. A permit will be required for all Lawn Sprinkler / Irrigations <br />Systems installed. The permit cost will be established yearly by <br />Lino Lakes City Ordinance. <br />b. The connection to the water system must be done in conformance <br />with the Minnesota State Plumbing Code. <br />c. The low voltage electrical wiring portion of the lawn sprinkler / <br />irrigation system must be performed by a licensed Technology <br />Systems Contractor who employs a qualified Power Limited <br />Technician per Minnesota Statue 326.242. <br />d. An approved back flow prevention device must be installed as a <br />part of all lawn sprinkler / irrigation systems. The device shall be <br />installed per manufacturer installation instructions. The type of <br />approved backflow device must be provided when applying for a <br />permit. <br />e. All newly installed lawn sprinkler / irrigation systems are <br />required to have rain sensors installed as part of the system. This <br />is in accordance with Minnesota State Statute 103G.298 and <br />Federal Water Conservation Standards. <br />
