minimize the damage to doors and windows and provide a more efficient means of <br />emergency access to locked buildings by public safety personnel, thereby enhancing <br />the safety and security of the building's occupants. <br />(2) Requirements. Where access to a multiple dwelling building is restricted <br />because of secured entrances, the Department of Public Safety is authorized to require <br />a key box to be properly installed and maintained in an accessible location as close as <br />possible to the main entrance door. The key box must not be located at a height over <br />six (6) feet above the finished grade but high enough to prevent water and snow from <br />entering or blocking it. The key box installation must be approved by the Department of <br />Public Safety. The key box shall be of an approved type and shall contain keys to gain <br />access as required by the Director of Public Safety. <br />Effective Date <br />1009/0. Effective Date and Enforcement. The provisions of this Chapter shall be <br />effective thirty (30) days after publication for all new construction.
