• <br />• <br />• <br />Safe & Sober Grant — 2004 <br />• Grant period will run from October 1, 2003 through September 30, 2004. <br />• Total amount of grant is $60,000. <br />• Safe & Sober is a traffic safety program aimed at reducing traffic fatalities and <br />personal injury accidents. <br />o This is accomplished through enforcement of the following laws: <br />■ Impaired Driving <br />■ Seat Belts <br />▪ Aggressive Driving <br />• Speed <br />■ Under Age Drinking and Driving <br />• Monies will be used to pay officers to enforce traffic laws. <br />• The Safe & Sober Program is a federally funded program. <br />o Agencies throughout the state apply for dollars through a competitive <br />grant process. <br />• Typically, the state receives requests for more than twice the dollar <br />amounts available. <br />• Coon Rapids Police will be the lead agency in this grant. <br />o Coon Rapids will apply for re -imbursement of money spent by each <br />participating city. <br />• Coon Rapids will then re-imburse each city. <br />o Lino Lakes, Coon Rapids, Anoka, Ramsey, Fridley, Columbia Heights, <br />Spring Lake Park, Centennial Lakes, St. Francis Police Departments and <br />the Anoka County Sheriff's Office will be participating in this grant. <br />• What does Lino Lakes gain from this program? <br />o Increased patrols on the streets when violations are most likely to occur. <br />o Assistance from other participating agencies enforcing traffic safety within <br />our community. <br />o Hopefully a reduction in fatal and personal injury accidents. <br />
