AA <br />Council Member <br />and moved its adoption: <br />introduced the following resolution <br />CITY OF LINO LAKES <br />RESOLUTION NO.2000- 75 <br />RESOLUTION ACCEPTING DONATION FROM THE CENTENNIAL FIRE RELIEF <br />ASSOCIATION FOR THREE (3) SETS OF TIRE DEFLATION DEVICES <br />WHEREAS, the Lino Lakes Police Department is currently operating <br />without a tire deflation system to aid in the stopping <br />of pursuits; <br />WHEREAS, Lino Lakes is a thirty-three square mile city which has <br />several main traffic arteries running through it <br />including I35W and I35E, which are commonly used by <br />fleeing suspects; <br />WHEREAS, in the past, officers have frequently been in position <br />where a tire deflation device could have been <br />implemented to aid in stopping or slowing the suspect <br />vehicle, therefore lessening risk to public safety; <br />WHEREAS, funding for a total of six sets of tire deflation <br />devices to equip duty squad cars was not part of the <br />2000 Department of Public Safety budget item; <br />WHEREAS, a grant was written and was accepted by the Minnesota <br />Department of Public Safety Office of Drug Policy and <br />Violence Prevention Tire Deflators Grant program. The <br />grant allows the Lino Lakes Police Department to <br />purchase three sets of tire deflation devices, two <br />hours of classroom instruction and two hours of <br />practical use with a set of training spikes. The Lino <br />Lakes Police Department is required to provide matching <br />funds; <br />WHEREAS, the Centennial Fire Relief Association has made a <br />donation in the amount of $1332.00 to the City of Lino <br />Lakes for the cost of three (3) sets of tire deflation <br />devices which meets our matching funds requirement; and <br />
