PROCLAMATION <br />VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK <br />March 5 - 12, 1989 <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, a Christian social <br />service organization, is celebrating its 93rd year of service <br />to the people of Minnesota and the nation; it is therefore <br />certainly aappropriate for us to join in the observance of <br />this milestone with the commemoration of March 5 - 12, 1989 <br />as Volunteers of America Week; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is making a valuable <br />contribution to the people of Minnesota by providing two <br />residential treatment centers for emotionally handicapped <br />boys; a children's emergency shelter; six programs serving <br />autistic, autistic -like and/or developmentally disabled <br />children and youth; fifty treatment foster homes and group <br />homes for infants, children and youth; four homes for elderly <br />and/or mentally disabled adults; forty two senior citizen <br />dining sites in Anoka and Hennepin Counties; a pre-release <br />and work -release correctional facility for female offenders; <br />plus three housing complexes for families, the handicapped, <br />and the elderly; and four long-term care facilities; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, through its <br />compassionate, yet practical crusade, is extending spiritual <br />fellowship as it provides relief where it is most urgently; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is commemorating its <br />founding in 1896 and urges others to uphold the American <br />philanthropic spirit through their commitment to help those <br />in need, <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Benjamin G. Benson, <br />Mayor of the City of Lino Lakes, do hereby proclaim the week <br />of March 5 - 12, 1989, <br />VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK <br />AND, BE IT RESOLVED, that copies of this proclamation be <br />transmitted to the Volunteers of America as evidence of our <br />esteem. <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused <br />the Great Seal of the City of Lino Lakes to be affixed this <br />twenty seventh day of February in the year of our Lord one <br />thousand nine hundred and eighty-nine. <br />
