WHEREAS, <br />WHEREAS, <br />WHEREAS, <br />WHEREAS, <br />WHEREAS, <br />CITY OF LINO LAKES <br />RESOLUTION NO. 64 — 89 <br />PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER AS <br />GREATER ANOKA COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY MONTH <br />the Greater Anoka County Humane Society was <br />established 10 years ago using volunteers' homes to <br />provide shelter to a small number of stray animals; <br />and, <br />two years ago the Humane Society built a shelter to <br />meet the growing needs for their services; and, <br />now, the Humane Society, utilizing a network of <br />over 100 volunteers, cares for an average of up to <br />150 animals per day with over 50 per cent per month <br />being adopted out to new homes; and, <br />as the demand for services continues to grow the <br />shelter needs to build additional holding pens and <br />exercise areas for the animals; and, <br />it is a primary goal of the Humane Society to <br />increase public awareness in the schools and the <br />community to the importance of proper care for <br />animals; and, <br />WHEREAS, in an effort to raise funds for the building <br />additions and the public outreach, the Humane <br />Society is hosting a 5K Walk/Run/Roll For Homeless <br />Animals on Saturday, September 23, 1989 at Bunker <br />Hills Regional Park; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Lino Lakes City Council supports the Humane <br />Society's goals and fundraising efforts because <br />they will result in better care for animals: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lino Lakes City <br />Council does proclaim the Month of September as Greater Anoka <br />County Humane Society Month throughout Lino Lakes and <br />encourages increased public awareness of the services <br />provided by the non-profit organization: <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Lino Lakes City Council <br />encourages people to participate in the 5K Walk/Run/Roll For <br />Homeless Animals by entering the race or by contributing <br />pledges in order to help the Humane Society provide the <br />proper care for abandoned and stray animals in our City. <br />Adopted by the Lino Lakes City Council this llth day of <br />September, 1989. <br />PAGE 1 <br />
