CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 4A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Public Safety Director John Swenson <br />MEETING DATE: November 23, 2015 <br />TOPIC: Approval Resolution 15-132 Accepting Project Lifesaver Grant <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The Lino Lakes Public Safety Department is requesting council approval to accept grant <br />funding from the Minnesota Officer of Justice Programs for expansion of the existing rapid <br />response lifesaver program. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Public Safety Department has been awarded grant funding for expansion of the existing <br />rapid response lifesaver program. This grant funding is focused expanding a program designed <br />to quickly find individuals with medical conditions that cause wandering and result in <br />individuals becoming lost and missing. <br />The basic requirements of the grant are as follows: <br />o Funds must be used for the purchase of emergency response kits, which <br />includes equipment necessary to track and triangulate searches, transmitters, <br />receivers, or any other related equipment and to train search personnel <br />The primary goal of this grant program is to develop or expand a rapid response lifesaver <br />program. The Lino Lakes Public Safety Department will be expanding an existing program and <br />the grant will be met through the purchase of supplies and by providing services to participants <br />with financial hardship. <br />The grant will reimburse the City for expenses related to client supplies and services ($1,500), <br />and a personnel training exercise ($500). <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of Resolution 15-132 accepting the lifesaver program grant from <br />the Minnesota Office of Justice Programs for expansion of the current rapid response lifesaver <br />program. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />Resolution 15-132 <br />
