HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/08/2018 EDAC Minutes 1 CITY OF LINO LAKES ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES DATE: February 8, 2018 MEMBERS PRESENT: Jim Schueller, Nathan Vojtech, Chad Wagner, Thomas Colgan, Patrick Kohler, Don Johnson MEMBERS ABSENT: Michael Ruhland, Julie Schwartz OTHERS PRESENT: Mike Grochala, Mara Strand, Kathy Laur APPROVAL OF MINUTES It was moved by Mr. Kohler to approve the minutes from December 7, 2017. The motion was seconded by Mr. Vojtech and passed unanimously. DISCUSSION ITEMS A. Comprehensive Plan Update Mr. Grochala presented Chapter 5: Economic Development of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan. He also provided an overview of the recently completed “Economic Development Business Recruitment Roadmap” prepared by Ady Advantage for Conexus Energy. The Study included a broad range of research and survey information across Anoka County leading to compilation of a county wide action plan. Specific findings of the report include:  The perception of Anoka County is that it’s rural, something the County is trying to change.  Target Industry Analysis recommended targeting light manufacturing, heavy manufacturing, distribution and tracking, data centers and back office operations such as medical services and call centers.  Clearwater Creek Business Park received positive reviews in the site analysis component. Staff noted that the will continue work with Anoka County and Conexus as part of the City’s implementation of the Economic Development Plan. Board members stated that the City was in a good position for economic development and that the Main Street/35E corridor held a lot of promise. 2 Mr. Grochala stated that the draft Comprehensive Plan will be going to the Planning and Zoning in early March, open house in April, public hearing in May B. Year End Review 2017 Mr. Grochala reviewed Economic Development activities that had taken place in the past year. These included:  Review and amendment of the City’s Incentive policy  City sold land to the American Legion for a parking lot.  133 new residential permits were issued. The city anticipates that will increase in 2018. C. Project Updates Mr. Grochala provided an overview of current projects.  New commercial building, All Seasons Rental, will be expanding.  Mini mobile moved out of industrial park.  Anoka County is proposing to pave Otter Lake Road from J to Cedar Street in 2018. West Shadow Lake and LaMotte will have work done this year.  City Council will be considering preparation of plans for extending utilities to the 49 and CR J area.  A daycare center submitted a land use application for 49/Birch Street.
