For
the office of city councilmember there were two seats open. Randy Rennaker received
the most votes. The recount was called based on the close race between the candidate
with the second most votes (Nelson) and candidate with the third most votes (Stoesz).
The City Clerk noted that the city has seven polling locations and that 14 Election Judges
worked in pairs to hand recount the ballots. Both candidates were present for the
recount. The machine count was accurate. With a hand recount, voter intent can be
determined and there was one ballot in which the voter made a mark next to the oval to
cast their vote. For city council, voters could vote for two candidates. The voter selected
candidates Nelson and Stoesz as their two choices, so each candidate received one
additional vote, which is recorded in the abstract being presented this evening.
Motion to approve the November 4, 2025, Municipal General Election Recount abstracts
as presented.
RESULT:
CARRIED [3-0]
MOVER:
Ruhland
SECONDER:
Lyden
AYES:
Stoesz, Lyden and Ruhland
NAYS:
None
