Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation Department Program Highlights - Novem ber Park Board Update YOUTH Youth Instructional: Many of our youth instructional programs are winding down for the season. Toss, Kick and Catch, Floor Hockey Mini Camp, Fastpitch Pitching, Basket "Have a Ball" and Soccer Mini Camp all end this month. Dance and Tae Kwon Do will be ending just before the holidays next month. All programs will take a break in late December and resume again in January after winter break. SPECIAL EVENTS Family Turkey Shoot: The 8th Annual Family Turkey Shoot was held on Saturday, November 12 at Centennial Middle School. 153 adult /child teams participated in this years event - our second highest total ever! 35 volunteers from Centennial High School National Honor Society, Centennial High School Student Council and Forest Lake High School National Honor Society helped with the event this year and did a fantastic job! This years sponsors were Lino Lakes State Bank, Circle Pines Lexington Lions, Forest Lake Area Athletic Association and Lino Lakes Lions. Special thanks to all of our sponsors fortheir wonderful financial donations. This years winners were as follows. 1st place 11 -14 year olds: Adam and Dan Nelson; 2nd place 11 -14 year olds: Briza and Brian Bohne; 1St place 7 -10 year olds: Jared and Scott Kaul; 2nd place 7 -10 year olds: Ryley Found and Derek Johnson; 1St place 4 -6 year olds: Meghan and Laura Welch; 2nd place 4 -6 year olds: Mitchell and MErol Hanson; Random Drawing Winners: Michael and Rich O'Dea, Julie and Jim Donnelly, Jacob and Mary helling, Rachel and Brent Larson, Zach Sandbakken and David Beatty, Curtis and Jan Nelson. Congratulations to all winners! Breakfast with Santa: Breakfast with Santa event is fast approaching. Registration is a little slower than previous years, but I am confident the event will fill now that the holiday season has officially begun. Currently, 168 people are registered and we can accept 200. ADULT 5- Player Basketball: We have 10 Mens Basketball teams signed up to play in the Wednesday Night Basketball League this season. Games will start on Wednesday, December 7. Open Basketball: Open Basketball started on November 14, we had 25 participants on opening night. Open Volleyball: Open Volleyball starts this Friday, December 2. BROCHURE & WARMING HOUSES Brochure: Our winter brochure is now out and on the web. Check it out atwww.ci.Iino- lakes.mn.us. While you're there, check out our on -line registration too! Alarming Houses: Warming House interviews and staff acements are being finalized, we will staff three shelters this year: Sunrise Park, Birch Park and City Hall Park. Questions? C 1 T Y';: �,` O F IN i KE Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation Department 600 Town Center Parkway Lino Lakes, MN 55014 (651) 982 -2440 Fax (651) 982 -2439 www.ci.lino- lakes.mn.us November 28, 2005 TO: Park Board Members FROM: Mike Hoffman, Parks Supervisor SUBJECT: November Park Maintenance Update Maintenance highlights during the month of November have included: • Mowing and weed whipping as needed. • Garbage collection. • Mowed trail edges. • Swept trails (removed leaves and other debris). • Soccer and football field maintenance: Aerated, top dressed and over seeded worn areas, some additional seeding will need to be completed in the spring. • Highland Meadows playground: Pressure washed and cleaned up paint that was applied by vandals. • Site prepped and hand seeded prairie area at Town Center site. • Moved 3 large trees with tree spade at Legacy project site. • Trapper's staircase: Repaired large washout next to staircase (caused by bicycles and erosion). Fill from top of hill washed downhill onto staircase. Work included filling washout, seeding slope and installing erosion control blanket down the slope. • Regraded hockey and pleasure rinks at City Hall and Lino Parks. • Winterized, serviced and stored summer maintenance equipment. (Proline mowers, mower decks, Cushman, etc.) • Equipment maintenance and changeover: Serviced units and installed snowblowers, plows, and brooms. • Removed dock at Country Lakes Park (dock is stored on site out of the water). • Assisted Recreation Department: Stored Turkey Shoot equipment and football blocking dummies. • Hockey rink inspections and repairs (replaced broken boards, fixed gates, checked rink lights). • Shoveled sidewalks and applied chemicals as needed at Senior Center, Town Center, and Fire Station. • Prepared warming houses for skating season. • Ordered trees and shrubs for spring planting projects.
