November Park Board Update
SPECIAL EVENTS
Family Turkey Shoot: The 10thAnnual Family Turkey Shoot was held
on Saturday, November 10 at Centennial Middle School. 64 teams and 20
volunteers participated in this year's event. This is the lowest number of
teams and volunteers we've had to date, but the event could not have gone
any better. There were no lines, the volunteers were extremely helpful, and
there were plenty of refreshments. Everyone was very happy and we heard
many positive comments throughout the event. The lower attendance could
have been a result of our decision not to do school flyers this year, but it is
difficult to say as we had a lot of new families in attendance that heard about the event through our other advertisements
- Centennial's "In the Loop" and the Quad Press. Overall, I would say the event was a huge success!
Breakfast with Santa: Breakfast with Santa is quickly approaching. As of November 21, 106 people ages 18 months and
up have registered. This is slightly lower than year's past at this time, but the economy could be playing a role - across
the board attendance has been lower in programs. We will continue to accept registrations through the end of November.
Despite our lower attendance number, our volunteer total for Breakfast with Santa is above and beyond what we really
need, but we are finding ways to utilize the help.
Letters from Santa: Even though it's not even Thanksgiving yet, we've already received 11 requests for Letters from Santa.
We anticipate this to be as popular this year as it has been in the past. After last year's holiday season we revised our
letters to include two letter versions for each age from 1 year to 13 year years. This should really bring a new twist for those
families requesting multiple letters for their children of different ages.
•ecret Holiday Shop: The Secret Holiday Shop is quickly approaching. It will be held December 12 and 13 at Lino Lakes
City Hall Community Room from 4:30 - 7 p.m. each evening. We already have several volunteers lined up to help the
shoppers and are looking forward to a great sale!
YOUTH PROGRAMS
Fastpitch Pitching Clinics: Fastpitch Girls Softball Clinics are underway and we have 9 girls signed up for the program.
All of the girls in the class are working at different levels and are refining their pitching skills.
Youth Instructional: Our youth instructional programs (Dance, Toss, Kick & Catch, Tae Kwon Do, Soccer Mini Camp,
Floor Hockey, etc.) are winding down for the season. Many will end the end of this month or the beginning of next month.
Programs will resume after Winter Break in early to mid - January.
ADULT PROGRAMS
Open Basketball: Open adult basketball started on Monday, November 12 and we had 13 players there for the first night.
Open basketball is from 7:00 - 9:45 at Centennial Middle School gymnasium.
5- Player Basketball League: 5- Player Adult Basketball League is set to open
league play on Wednesday, November 28. We have 7 teams in the league this
year.
WARMING HOUSES
Warming house staff have been hired and we have many new staff this year.
Warming houses are set to open on Saturday, December 15 (weather permitting).

TO: Park Board Members
FROM: Mike Hoffman, Parks Supervisor
SUBJECT: November Parks Maintenance Update
Maintenance activities during the month of November have included the following:
• Completed all mowing. Mowers have been thoroughly cleaned, serviced and stored for
the winter or had mowers removed and winter attachments installed.
• Final garbage collection until spring. All cans have been emptied throughout the park
system.
• Completed irrigation system blowouts.
• Equipment winterization and winter equipment preparation. In addition to the mowers
mentioned earlier, a lot of other equipment needs to be winterized and stored or prepped
for winter use. Our JD 6410 gets a plow hung on it in the winter and is used to clear
parking lots and plow cul -de -sacs. Our JD 5525 gets an 8' angle broom attached to it and
is used to sweep sidewalks and hockey rinks. All plows and snow blowers are hooked up
and run prior to the first snow to ensure everything is operating properly.
• Assist Recreation Department with Family Turkey Shoot and moving supplies from
Town Center to Marshan storage building.
• Assisted Streets Department with tree removal along Pine Street.
• Delivered and spread approximately 60 cubic yards of rec -step to Clearwater Creek Park
tot lot.
• Removed dock from Country Lakes Park.
• Graffiti removed from Brandywood Park playground.
• Athletic field projects:
- top dressed and over - seeded wear areas on football and soccer fields
- spread ballfield Red Rock to infields on Sunrise #1 and #2.
• Heavy Duty Attachment Rack installed (48'L x 8 1/2' H x 4' W) inside our outdoor
storage yard. The rack holds approximately 18 skid steer and tractor attachments and all
are easily accessible. In the past you would sometimes have to move 2 -3 attachments to
get to the one you needed. The rack will keep things much more organized and allow us
to hook up much faster.
• Pheasant Hills Trail Update — much has happened here since last month's update. Tree
and brush clearing has been completed. Stumps along the proposed trail route were
removed. The abandoned section of trail was milled on site with the millings being used
as base material for the new trail. A geotextile fabric was placed under the base material
to help stabilize the trail. Additional loads of crushed limerock were hauled in for base
material. The trail has been graded and compacted. All disturbed areas have been

restored, seeded and erosion control measures are in place. Tree Trust plans to begin
construction of the boardwalk this winter. I will keep you posted as to their progress.
Those are November's highlights with more to come in December.
P.S. November 27, 5° F morning temperature. Guess what, we hput down our first flood of the
season. If these temps keep up we'll be skating by December 8t . Ha, Ha, don't count on it.
