HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-065 Council Resolution• • • Council Member Qr,A-15 o ✓t introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: CITY OF LINO LAKES RESOLUTION NO. 06 -65 RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING ABSENTEE BALLOT BOARD IN THE CITY OF LINO LAKES WHEREAS, the City of Lino Lakes receives hundreds of absentee ballots each election; and WHEREAS, on Election Day the election judges must take time to accept or reject the ballots according to the criteria set forth by the State of Minnesota Election Laws; and WHEREAS, processing absentee ballots prior to election day will ease the responsibility of the election judges on election day and reduce their time spent at the polling place at the close of the polls; and WHEREAS, establishing an Absentee Ballot Board is an excellent way to improve the processing of absentee ballots with less chance for error; and WHEREAS, Anoka County is willing to aid in facilitating the Absentee Ballot Board for the State Elections which means more experienced workers will supervise the accepting or rejecting of the absentee ballots; and WHEREAS, in discussions with Anoka County Elections officials, it has been agreed that the City's Election Liaison and/or designees will be the only staff needed for the processing of the absentee ballots; and WHEREAS, during local elections the City will be responsible for administering the board which will be made up of election judges and/or city staff of different political parties serving as election judges; and WHEREAS, Anoka County needs 100% cooperation from each city /township /school board for the Absentee Ballot Board process to be consistent and successful. -48a- • • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Lino Lakes hereby authorizes and establishes an Absentee Ballot Board for the City of Lino Lakes and that the Election Liaison, City Clerk and/or designee is authorized to serve on the Absentee Ballot Board.
