adoption:
CITY OF LINO LAKES
COUNTY OF ANOKA
RESOLUTION NO. 07- 121
Pledging Support for Improving the Physical Accessibility
to the Polling Place in Precinct #2, the Centennial Fire Station #2
WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota Office of the Secretary of State is currently soliciting grant
proposals from cities, townships and counties for accessibility improvements to polling places in
Minnesota;
WHEREAS, Lino Lakes Precinct No. 2, Centennial Fire Station #2, currently does not have
automatic door openers;
WHEREAS, the Office of the Secretary of State recommends installing automatic door openers
as it has been determined that many people with disabilities and older individuals may have
difficulty opening the heavy doors leading to the polling places.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the city council is hereby authorized to:
a) Apply for a grant from the Office of the Secretary of State of Minnesota for Federal
funds pursuant to Title II, Section 261 of the Help America Vote Act for the sole
purpose of improving access to polling places in this city for persons with
disabilities;
b) Enter into an agreement with the Office of the Secretary of State governing the
receipt, expenditure, reimbursement and reporting of such grant;
c) Receive and account separately in a manner sufficient to meet generally accepted
government accounting principles sufficient to pass federal audit; and
d) Expend any sums received in the manner indicated in the grant application and
agreement with the Office of the Secretary of State.

Polling Place in Precinct #2, Centennial Fire

VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority (3/5 Vote)
BACKGROUND:
The Help America Vote Act (HAVA) provides funds for improving the accessibility and
quality of polling places. The Office of the Secretary State has received federal grant
money (Election Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Grant Program) and will
award up to $263,000.00 in grants to city, township and county governments for polling
place accessibility improvement projects. Of the $263,000., $242,000. has been
designated for physical, accessibility improvements to the polling places, such as
automatic door openers, disability parking spaces, ramps, etc.
Currently the Centennial Fire Station #2, Precinct No. 2, does not have automatic door
openers. The Office of the Secretary of State recommends installing automatic door as it
has been determined that many people with disabilities and older individuals may have
difficulty opening the heavy doors leading into polling places.
This resolution pledging support is required to accompany the grant application.
