HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/17/1988 Council Minutes1 1 SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING FEBRUARY 17, 1988 Mayor Benson opened the Special Meeting of the Lino Lakes City Council at 6:04 P.M., Wednesday, February 17, 1988. Council Members present: Bohjanen, Reinert. Mr. Bisel was out of town and could not be reached. Mayor Benson told the Council that Council Member Donald R. Marier had passed away early Tuesday, February 16, 1988 and the purpose of this Special Meeting was to discuss filling the vacancy on the Council. The Council has the responsibility under the City Charter and State Statutes to set an election date within ninety (90) days of the vancancy. In addition the Clerk must give a sixty (60) published notice of the election. Mayor Benson noted that an attempt had been made to reach Mr. Bisel and he felt the Council should proceed with expediency to set the election so that the Clerk could comply with the Charter and State Statute requirements. The Clerk has prepared Resolution No. 05 - 88 setting April 26, 1988 as the election date. In addition she has prepared a memorandum outlining the information from the State Auditor's office regarding special elections and a proposed time table for this special election. Mr. Bohjanen asked if the Council made a decision to set an election on Monday, February 22nd would this be enough time. Mayor Benson said it would delay the publication and set the date of the election forwarded to May 3, 1988. Mayor Benson said he did not think that Mr. Bisel would object to setting the election date during his absence. Mr. Reinert moved to adopt Resolution No. 05 - 88. Mr. Bohjanen seconded the motion. Mrs. Anderson read the Resolution. Voting on the motion, motion carried unanimously. Mayor Benson noted that all three newspaper were notified of this Special Meeting and a notice was posted as required by State Statutes. Mr. Reinert moved to adjourn at 6:15 P.M.
