HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004-134 Council Resolution• • CITY OF LINO LAKES RESOLUTION NO. 04 -134 RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (MNDOT) CONDUCT A SPEED STUDY ON CITY STREET WHEREAS, Elmcrest Avenue, from the intersection of Anoka County Road 154 to Anoka County State Aid Highway 14, is currently a gravel road shared with the City of Hugo; and WHEREAS, the speed limit is currently posted at 55 mph and the City believes that a reduction in the posted speed limit should be considered, and WHEREAS, the City of Hugo, on May 17th, 2004 passed a resolution requesting that a speed study be conducted for the purpose of reducing the speed limit on such roadway; and WHEREAS, the Commissioner of Transportation sets the regulatory speed limit on this street and WHEREAS, the Commissioner of Transportation may revise the speed limit on certain streets upon completion of a speed study NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lino Lakes hereby requests the Commissioner of Transportation conduct a speed study for the purpose of reducing the speed limit on Elmcrest Avenue, fro the intersection of Anoka County Road 154 to the intersection of Anoka County State Aide Highway 14. AGENDA ITEM 6E STAFF ORIGINATOR: Michael Grochala CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: September 13, 2004 TOPIC: Consideration of Resolution No. 04 -134 Requesting Elmcrest Speed Study VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 BACKGROUND: Elmcrest Avenue is a gravel road that runs along the City's eastern border with the City of Hugo. The speed limit on the roadway is currently posted at 55 mph. In view of pending development and concerns over safety the City of Hugo requested that the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn /DOT) conduct a speed study for the purpose of lower the posted speed limit. The speed study is proposed to be conducted for that portion of Elmcrest lying between County Road 154 (80th Ave.) and County Road 14 (Main Street). Since jurisdiction of the roadway is shared between the City of Lino Lakes and the City of Hugo, Mn /DOT has requested that Lino Lakes provide a resolution in support of the study.
