COUNCIL WORK SESSION SEPTEMBER 12, 1988
Mayor Benson opened the Council Work Session at 6:15 P.M.,
Monday, September 12, 1988. Council Members present: Neal,
Bisel, Bohjanen and Reinert. Council Members absent: none.
City Administrator, Randy Schumacher and Clerk - Treasurer,
Marilyn Anderson were also present.
Jeff Johnson representing Leadr's software explained his
background and Leadr's background with law enforcement
software. He handed out a brochure and a letter and briefly
outlined the brochure. He explained the programs are very
easy to learn. The software is completely supported and two
full days of training are included in his sales package.
Mr. Bisel asked if this software could be tied into the
County system. Mr. Johnson said yes but this may be on a
limited basis. He noted that the program is completely tied
into the State system.
Mayor Benson asked about costs for the system. Mr. Johnson
said this would depend upon how many programs are purchased.
Mr. Schumacher explained that Officer Keller is looking into
what programs would be needed at this time. Mr. Schumacher
estimated that the costs would be between $8,000.00 and
$12,000.00.
Support costs were discussed. Mr. Johnson explained that
normally these costs amount to about 10% of the cost of the
software.
Mr. Bisel asked about the hardware for this progam. Mr.
Johnson explained that the software is IBM compatible and
suggested an IBM model 60 or 70.
Mr. Schumacher told Mr. Johnson that he would be contacting
him in about a week or ten days after he has the opportunity
to look at the budget closer.
Mr. Jeff Christianson of Banyon Data Systems gave a brief
background on Banyon Systems and noted that many of the
people in the company have been in the business for over
thirty years. Mr. Christianson briefly outlined the
software available and noted that all modules interface with
word processing. This software is IBM compatible and he
said a Model 70 IBM would work very well with the software.

r. Schumacher explained to the Council that the City has
orked with Banyon Systems for several years and the staff
enjoys working with Doug Banyon. He felt that Banyon
Systems would provide stability needed for backup.
Mr. Christianson explained that Banyon Systems provide
training at $500.00 per day and also provides unlimited
support.
Mr. Schumacher thanked Mr. Christianson for coming and said
he would be getting back to him.
Mr. Schumacher said he would like to get a firm handle on
the budget and then come to the Council as soon as possible
with software specifications. Mayor Benson said it seems
that there is a dire need to get the systems up and in use
and asked why Mr. Schumacher why the package was not
presented tonight so that the Council could act. Mr.
Schumacher said he wanted the Council to be comfortable with
the software and be sure everyone was thoroughly familiar
with what is being presented.
Mayor Benson asked Mr. Schumacher to put together a
IIIecommendation for software and tie it into the hardware
ackage and into the budget.
r. Bisel said that his biggest concern is whether the City
should go with a PC or a System 36. Mr. Schumacher said he
has given all the information he has collected to the City
Auditor and he has recommended PC's.
The Council took a five minute break at 7:05 P.M.
