AGENDA ITEM NO. 3A
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director
COUNCIL MEETING DATE: February 12, 2001
TOPIC: PUBLIC HEARING, Resolution 01 -20, Consideration
of Submitting Outdoor Recreation Grant Application
VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority
BACKGROUND:
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) operates several financial
assistance programs. The purpose of the Outdoor Recreation Grant Program is to
increase and enhance outdoor recreation facilities. Eligible projects are for park
acquisition and /or development/re- development including picnic shelters, playgrounds,
athletic facilities, trails, boat accesses, fishing piers, swimming beaches, campgrounds,
and others. This program is for cities, counties and townships.
The Outdoor Recreation Grant Program is a very competitive program with hundreds of
grant applications submitted annually. Projects selected to receive a grant receive
assistance of up to 50 percent of total eligible costs.
The City Council recently authorized staff to submit an application in the amount of
$125,000 for the development of Clearwater Creek Park. As part of the application
process, a Public Hearing is required to obtain citizen input on the proposed Outdoor
Recreation Grant Application.
Resolution 01 -20 authorizes staff to submit an Outdoor Recreation Grant application,
and authorizes myself to execute such agreements as are necessary to implement the
project on behalf of the City of Lino Lakes.
