Staff Members present: City Administrator, Randy Schumacher and
Clerk -Treasurer Marilyn Anderson.
The purpose of the meeting was to canvass the November 2, 1993
municipal election.
Mrs. Anderson presented a written report of the municipal
election. She noted that the report is quite large because there
was an unusual amount of write-in ballots and the name of each
person written on a ballot had to be listed on the report.
The majority of votes were received by the person listed on the
ballot. The votes received were as follows:

There was a total of 23 write-in ballots and 9 blank ballots.

There was a total of 254 write-in ballots and 802 blank ballots.
Mayor Reinert asked if Mrs. Anderson could offer an explanation
of why there were so many write-in ballots. Mrs. Anderson said
she felt it was because there was no challenger to. the Council
Members on the ballot. She also noted that for the last two or
three years the voters have been registering there frustration by

voting out the incumbents. Since the Council Member ballot
contained only incumbents, the only way to express
dissatisfaction was to write in a name or comment.
Mrs. Anderson explained that the difference in the number of
ballots between Mayor Reinert and Mr. Bisel was 35. This means
that there will not be an automatic recount. However, Mr. Bisel
has the lawful right to request a recount at his own expense.
Council Member Neal moved to accept the Summary of.the Municipal
Election as presented by the City Clerk. Council Member Elliott
seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Council Member Bergeson thanked Mrs. Anderson and the entire
election staff for their work on the Municipal Election. Mrs.
Anderson explained that she is very pleased with the entire staff
and because they are well trained and conscientious, the entire
election process was completed without any problem.
Council Member Elliott moved to adjourn at 5:15 P.M. Council
Member Bergeson seconded the motion. Aye.
These minutes were considered, corrected and approved at a
regular City Council meeting held on January 10, 1994.
