Staff also thought the information on the complex may be too confusing to conduct a thorough phone survey. SPECIAL COUNCIL WORK SESSION JANUARY 30, 2002 Mayor Bergeson stated the consultants need to determine if the information is too confusing to conduct a phone survey. Councilmember Carlson stated she feels the City should move ahead with the referendum. However, she stated she does feel people would understand if the City chose not to pursue the referendum at this time if polling shows little support due to the budget concerns. Councilmember Reinert stated he feels now is a good time to pursue the referendum. The survey is a good idea depending on the cost of it and if there is time. If there is not enough time to do a survey the referendum should be brought to `= .: oters this spring. It was the consensus of Council to move forward with the spring referendum and also have Staff find out what the consultant would cost, amount of time needed and the value of a survey. SPECIAL COUNCIL WORK SESSION JANUARY 30, 2002 LETTER TO STATE LEGISLATURE, LINDA WAITE SMITH City Administrator Waite Smith distributed a draft letter she wrote to send to city representatives in the legislature regarding the Governor's budget proposal and how it would affect the City of Lino Lakes. She noted she believes the Governor's plans are unfair to the City of Lino Lakes and it would cut approximately 12% of the budget. She asked that Councilmembers let her know about any changes or comments they have about the letter. Councilmember O'Donnell suggested something be put in the let er about the effort that was put into ensuring the budget does not have any excess. The should not be penalized for that. Mayor Bergeson suggested the letter also be sent to the Majority .LLQ# Minority Leaders. Councilmember Carlson suggested the letter be sent to th `S & e Legislature. It was the consensus of Council to send the letter to th _ s a with the suggested changes.
