HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/14/2007 Council Minutes (2)LIQUOR COMPLIANCE HEARING MINUTES May 14, 2007 APPROVED CITY OF LINO LAKES MINUTES LIQUOR COMPLIANCE HEARING 4 5 6 DATE : May 14, 2007 7 TIME STARTED : 6:03 p.m. 8 TIME ENDED : 6:16 p.m. 9 MEMBERS PRESENT : Councilmember Carlson, O'Donnell, Reinert, 10 Stoltz and Mayor Bergeson 11 MEMBERS ABSENT : None 12 13 Staff members present: City Administrator, Gordon Heitke; City Attorney, William Hawkins; Public 14 Safety Director, Dave Pecchia; Police Captain, Kent Strege; and City Clerk, Julie Bartell 15 16 HEARING ON LIQUOR CODE VIOLATIONS 17 18 Captain Strege reported that compliance checks on city liquor establishments were conducted by the 19 Police Department. American Legion Post 566, 7731 Lake Drive, was cited on two occasions — for 20 serving to an underage buyer and for allowing consumption of alcohol outside of their building. The 21 department utilizes a Best Practices Grid to consider penalties for compliance violations; their 22 recommendations were presented. S23 24 It was clarified that a stayed suspension would remain in place for one year and that all liquor 25 establishments receive training and notification when compliance checks will occur. 26 27 The public hearing was opened. 28 29 Charlie Lundgren, Commander -Elect of American Legion Post 566, addressed the Council. He will 30 be taking office on June 18 and is very concerned about the violations. The Legion has posted signs 31 allowing no outside drinking, installed a temporary fence that would be used on for an upcoming 32 special event, have installed a scanning device to check identification, and have reviewed their 33 policies with all the bartenders. 34 35 There being no one else present wishing to address the Council, the hearing was closed. 36 37 It was noted that the Council has consistently utilized the Best Practices Grid in considering 38 penalties. 39 40 Council Member O'Donnell moved to approve and forward the recommendation of the Police 41 Department to the city council meeting..
