REVIEW REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS
There were no changes to the regular Council agenda.
Water Restriction/Lawn Sprinkler/Irrigation Systems - Engineer Studenski reviewed the
history of the current odd/even day restriction. The restrictions have not been heavily enforced —
violations letters are sent out but seldom are people actually fined. Residents first receive a tag
on their door and then a letter. The recommendation to institute a time of the day restriction
relates to the fact that 65% of water used on a lawn during the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. is
lost. Mr. Studenski noted that staff continues to recommend the odd -even rule along with the
time of day restrictions.
Council comments included concern about how new technology such as soil monitors will fit
into the restriction; and keeping both the odd/even and hourly prohibition seems like overkill
especially since you get the big savings with the time of day restriction.
Engineer Studenski explained that the odd/even restriction adds the element of spreading usage
and keeping the peak water demand down.
The mayor suggested that the council could approve first reading of the ordinance this evening to
preserve the option of getting something in place for this year's watering season, but the council
can continue discussion in the meantime and before final approval.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:28 p.m.
These minutes were considered, corrected and approved at the regular Council meeting held on April 14,
2008.
