HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-172 Council Resolution111 Council Member 0 Doh/4/ and moved its adoption: • • introduced the following resolution CITY OF LINO LAKES RESOLUTION NO. 03 - 172 RESOLUTION ACCEPTING DONATION FROM VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA CHAPTER 470 - ANOKA COUNTY FOR TASER WHEREAS, WHEREAS, tasers are equipment used as Less Than Lethal Tactics by the police officers; and the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 470 have graciously made an offer to donate $450.00 toward the cost of a taser, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Lino Lakes City Council members, do hereby accept the $450.00 donation to purchase the taser and wishes to express its gratitude to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 470 for the donation. Pecchia, Public Safety Director/Chief of Police DATE October 13, 2003 TOPIC VOTE REQUIRED BACKGROUND Consideration of Resolution No 03 - 172 Accepting a Donation from the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 470 - Anoka County. Simple Majority The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 470 - Anoka County realizes the increased risks faced by police departments and the need for a greater push to use Less Lethal Tactics and have graciously donated $450.00 to defer the cost to purchase a Taser for use by the Public Safety Department. The purpose of Resolution 03-172 is to accept and publicly thank the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 470 - Anoka County for their generous donation to the City of Lino Lakes. OPTIONS 1. Adopt Resolution No. 03 - 172 accepting the donation. 2. Return the Resolution to staff for further information. RECOMMENDATION Option No. 1 COUNCIL MINUTES OCTOBER 13, 2003 APPROVED 49 •50 Mayor Bergeson indicated they had two Community Service Awards to present. He stated the first 51 was Ed Hemauer, from Ivy Ridge Lane. He indicated for several years Mr. Hemauer has walked 52 several miles a day picking up trash. He is out there almost every day, and has been for the last seven 53 years. He stated Mr. Hemauer was nominated by the residents of Winsell Farms Townhouse 54 Community for the Good Citizenship Award. 55 56 Mayor Bergeson indicated that the second award is for Mr. Roger Jensen, who recently passed away. 57 He stated two family members are here to accept his award. Mr. Jensen is being honored for his 58 many years of volunteer service to the City, including participation on several boards and 59 commissions. 60 61 B. Proclamation Declaring October "Crime Prevention Month" 2003, Police Chief Dave 62 Pecchia. 63 64 Police Chief Dave Pecchia noted the agenda was long and he would not read the proclamation, but 65 thanked the citizens and City Council for making Lino Lakes one of the safest cities to live in. 66 67 FINANCE DEPARTMENT REPORT, AL ROLEK 68 69 There was no report. 70 71 ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT REPORT, DAN TESCH .72 73 A. Consider Reappointment of Andy Cardinal to the Rice Creek Watershed District 74 (RCWD) 75 76 Police Chief Pecchia summarized the Staff report, indicating Mr. Cardinal seeks reappointment to a 77 three-year term with the RCWD. 78 79 Councilmember Carlson moved to approve the reappointment of Andy Cardinal to the Rice Creek 80 Watershed District. Councilmember Dahl seconded the motion. 81 82 Motion carried unanimously. 83 84 PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT REPORT, DAVE PECCHIA 85 86 A. Consider Resolution No. 03-172, Accepting Donation from Vietnam Veterans of America 87 Chapter 470 — Anoka Co. 88 89 Police Chief Pecchia presented the Staff report, noting the donation would go to defer the cost to 90 purchase a Taser for use by the Public Safety Department. 91 92 Councilmember O'Donnell moved to adopt Resolution No. 03-172 accepting a donation from 93 Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 470 — Anoka County for a taser. The motion for adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember Reinert and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Dahl, Reinert, Bergeson, Carlson and O'Donnell. The following voted against same: None. Whereupon said resolution was declared passed and adopted.
