HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-017 Council ResolutionCITY OF LINO LAKES RESOLUTION NO. 02-17 RESOLUTION ACCEPTING BIDS AND AWARDING A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT — LAKE DRIVE/APOLLO DRIVE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT. WHEREAS, pursuant to an advertisement for bids for the construction of the Lake Drive/Apollo Improvements project, bids were received, opened and tabulated according to law, and the following bids were received complying with the advertisement: Contractor Amount of Bid Forest Lake Contracting $1,509,275.30 Palda & Sons $1,531,047.40 Dresel Contracting $1,614,531.81 Ingram Excavating $1,622,777.11 Harddrives, Inc. $1,639,990.49 Arnt Construction $1,654,442.33 Park Construction $1,671,604.50 Tower Asphalt $1,692,698.69 Northwest Asphalt $1,722,156.19 Eureka Construction $1,734,593.40 Glenn Rehbein Excavating $1,743,304.93 F.M. Frattalone $1,766,248.35 Engineer's Estimate $1,680,395.75 AND WHEREAS, it appears that Forest Lake Contracting, Inc., is the lowest responsible bidder; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LINO LAKES, MINNESOTA: 1. The Mayor and Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract with Forest Lake Contracting, Inc., in the name of the City of Lino Lakes for the construction of the Lake Drive/Apollo Drive Improvements according to the plans and specifications approved by the City Council and on file in the office of the City Clerk. 2. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to return forthwith to all bidders the deposits made with their bids, except that the deposits of the successful bidder and the next lowest bidder shall be retained until a contract has been signed. Studenski, City Engineer COUNCIL MEETING DATE: March 11, 2002 TOPIC: Resolution No. 02-17, Receive Bids and Award Construction Contract, Lake Drive/Apollo Drive Improvements VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 Vote Required BACKGROUND: Sealed bids were received and publicly opened at 1:00 p.m. on March 4, 2002. The results of the bid opening are presented below. City Council action is required to award a construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder. Frattalone $1,766,248.35 Engineer's Estimate $1,680,395.75 The low bid is approximately 10% below the Engineer's Estimate for this project. A copy of the complete bid tabulation is attached. The cost of this project will be recovered through special assessments to benefiting properties per the development agreements for the Market Place and JADT developments. The completion date for this project is June 30, 2002. OPTIONS: 1. Return to staff for further review. 2. Adopt Resolution Number 02-17, accepting bids and awarding a construction contract to Forest Lake Contracting, Inc. for the Lake Drive/Apollo Drive Improvements project. 3. Not adopt Resolution No. 02-17. RECOMMENDATION: Option No. 2 - Staff recommends adoption of Resolution Number 02-17.
