CITY OF LINO LAKES
RESOLUTION NO. 2000- 31
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING CONTINUATION OF METROPOLITAN BUS
ROUTES 271 AND 213 IN LINO LAKES
WHEREAS, the City of Lino Lakes currently receives bus service from
Metropolitan Council routes 271 and 213; and
WHEREAS, bus routes 271 and 213 are relied upon by city residents for
transportation to jobs and other activities; and
WHEREAS, the rate of population increase in the City of Lino Lakes and the
surrounding area is among the tenth highest in the metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lino Lakes, being concerned about urban sprawl and
traffic congestion, has encouraged the use of mass transit and incorporated higher density
housing into its Town Center design; and
WHEREAS, the success of the developing Town Center and a resulting decrease
in reliance on private vehicle usage is highly dependent upon reliable bus service; and
WHEREAS, proposed changes to the current service provided by bus routes 271
and 213 appear to reduce the availability, convenience and reliability of mass transit to
Lino Lakes residents; and
WHEREAS, the negative effects of the proposed changes will multiply as
population continues to grow, which seems counter productive to stated Metropolitan
goals and to adopted city goals.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lino Lakes City Council to
direct the City Administrator to prepare and send to the Metropolitan Council a letter
supporting continuation of bus routes 271 and 213 in the City of Lino Lakes and
surrounding area.
