STAFF REPORT <br />DATE: February 6, 2024 <br /> CONSENT <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM: Hire FT Career Firefighter <br />SUBMITTED BY: Karissa Goers, Administrative Services Director <br />BACKGROUND: The Lake Elmo Fire Department has six full-time career firefighter positions to successfully implement <br />the 21-day shift schedule with two firefighters on shift at the station 24 hours per day. There is one vacant firefighter position open. <br />ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should Brian Chapman be hired as a Career Firefighter at the terms described below? PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: The recommendation is to hire Brian at grade 5, step 1. Tentative start dates would be February 13, 2024. Brian is a current Lake Elmo paid-on-call (POC) firefighter. He has been with the City a little over one year. He is a current engineer/EMT with both the St. Paul Fire Department and Allina Health Emergency Medical Services and comes prepared with all necessary certifications and qualifications for a full-time firefighter. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: This has been accounted for in the 2024 budget. OPTIONS: 1. Hire Brian Chapman terms described above. <br />2. Offer the job to Brian Chapman under different terms. 3. Offer the position to another candidate. RECOMMENDATION: If removed from the consent agenda: <br />Motion to hire Brian Chapman as full-time firefighter with salary at grade 5, step 1. ATTACHMENTS: None
