The Sally Manzara Interpretive Nature Center is open every day
Visit httpsa/sminc-lake-elmo.ora/ for details.
The Sally Manzara Interpretive Nature Center in Lake Elmo's
Sunfish Lake Park is operated by a non-profit organization for
9 i the benefit of the entire community. We offer programs and
events for people of all ages and have "adopted" the Park in
tY the Crty's program. This work is all funded by donations.
Thank you for your support!
INTERPRETIVE
Here is some info about recent and upcoming events:
• Minnesota Caves w/ Dr. Greg Brick: On
September 14 at 7 p.m. we welcome Dr. Greg
Brick, who will lecture on the history and lore of
caves in Minnesota. Minnesota has many caves,
some known nationally. Carver's was the earliest
cave in what is now the US to be described in
published literature after Jonathan Carver's visit
ten years before the Revolution. Fountain Cave
was the birthplace of the capital city. St. Paul. Specialized uses included for beer,
cheese. mushrooms, and as nightclubs. Mystery and Niagara are the state's best
known show caves. Far north, the violent waves of Lake Superior hammered out
caves accessible only by kayak. Other caves were purely mythical. Leam about
all of them from the geologist who wrote the book on the subject. Copies
available for purchase.
• Help us get rid of buckthom! On the second Saturday of every month volunteers
get together to clear invasive buckthorn from around Sunfish Lake Park. We've
made a lot of progress so far, but there's plenty more to do. We meet at 9:30,
and we have gloves, loppers and daubers for people to use. Our next buckthorn
removal day will be Saturday, September 9. Hope to see you then!
