52 | TRENDS ANALYSIS
According to recent U.S. Census data, Lake Elmo
is one of the fastest-growing cities in the Twin
Cities metropolitan area. In fact, Lake Elmo has the
potential to double in population in less than six
years if it continues to grow at its current rate.
With this large and continuous influx of new
community members, the city has both a challenge
and an opportunity to adapt and grow with
its residents. Understanding emerging social,
recreational, and demographic trends is critical to
best support current and future residents.
OVERVIEW OF TRENDS
In the following pages, several trends are
highlighted. They include:
»The Impacts of Climate Change
»Shifts in the Workplace
»Technology in the Park System
»Dog Ownership
»Pickleball + Cricket
»A Rise in Non-Traditional Recreation
»Inclusivity + Accessibility
»Other Emerging Trends in Programming
»Increasing need for partnerships with
local schools
Figure 2.2: Children’s nature play area at Pebble Park
