60 | TRENDS ANALYSIS <br />TREND 8 <br />OTHER EMERGING TRENDS IN PROGRAMMING <br />With demographics and interests constantly in flux, <br />programming trends are always shifting. According to <br />observations from park and recreation agencies around <br />the country, emerging programming trends include but <br />are not limited to: <br /> »Family engagement nights <br /> »Season festivals/new seasonal programming <br /> »Outdoor fitness programming <br /> »Programs for older adults <br /> »Programs for teens and young adults <br /> »Partnering with libraries for community events <br /> »Using outdoor spaces for educational purposes <br /> »Developing community gardens <br /> »Incorporating adventure and nature play <br />44% <br />Percentage by which community gardens in parks have <br />increased since 2012 (2022 Trust for Public Land Survey) <br />ADDITIONAL TRENDS <br />According to a 2023 survey from recmanagement.com, <br />programs that saw an increase in participation from last <br />year included: <br /> <br /> »Holidays and other special events (up 6.2%) <br /> »Youth sports teams (up 4.1%) <br /> »Fitness programs (up 3%) <br /> »Educational programs (up 2.2%) <br /> »Festivals and concerts (up 2.2%) <br /> »Programs for active older adults (up 1.4%) <br />STATISTICS <br />Source: https://recmanagement.com/articles/153715/trends- <br />parks-recreation-2023 <br />Figure 2.23: Movie in the Park community <br />event <br />Figure 2.24: Walking trail for residents of all <br />ages <br />Figure 2.25: Community garden plots in a public <br />park
