STAFF REPORT <br />DATE: November 6, 2024 <br /> CONSENT <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM: Hire Paid on Call Firefighters <br />SUBMITTED BY: Karissa Goers, Administrative Services Director <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In July, we advertised for paid on call firefighters. We held the posting open through September so it <br />would be open during the LEFD open house in an attempt to get more candidates. Interviews were <br />completed in early October, and we made conditional offers to eight (8) applicants. <br /> <br />ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: <br />Should the following candidates be hired as paid on call Firefighters at the terms described below? <br /> <br />Austin Palvelka <br /> <br />Derek Johnson <br /> <br />Matt Oppelt <br /> <br />Kyle O’Shea <br /> <br />Paul Edgerton <br /> <br />Jeff Aldridge <br /> <br />Austin Eesley <br /> <br />Malachi Thomas <br /> <br />PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: <br />Upon approval, a start date will be determined contingent upon Background Screening, Drug Screening, <br />Psychological Evaluation and Abilities Test. Upon meeting those conditions, the applicant will be placed <br />on the department as a Probationary Firefighter. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />The cost of pre-employment screening and wages for paid on call firefighters has been included in the 2025 <br />budget. <br /> <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Hire the above individuals as paid on call firefighters. <br />2. Re-advertise the position. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />If removed from the consent agenda: <br /> <br />Motion to hire Palvelka, Johnson, Oppelt, O’Shea, Edgerton, Aldridge, Eesley, and Thomas as paid <br />on call firefighters. <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS: <br />None
