6
Lake Elmo Fire Department adds full time staff
Lake Elmo Fire Class of 2025
LAKE ELMO PUBLIC SAFETY
Meet our new Lake Elmo-paid on-call firefighters!
The team has been busy with initial firefighting training.
They attend class two nights per week through June,
when they will obtain state certification for firefighting.
Besides class, the team also responds to calls, push
brooms after the fires are extinguished, work as duty
crew at the station and do everything except getting into
patient contact and hot zones. Welcome to Lake Elmo
Fire Department.
Brian Chapman joined the Lake Elmo Fire Department two years ago as a
paid-on-call firefighter. He is now a full-time firefighter and shares his
excitement about being part of the department’s growth.
Chapman enjoys spending time with his ten-year-old step daughter and
his one-year-old son. He is also looking forward to welcoming his baby
girl, who is due in March. When he’s not protecting the community of Lake
Elmo or being a busy dad, Chapman likes to participate in sports, go rock
climbing, and spend time on the lake whenever possible.
F O L L O W U S O N F A C E B O O K
FAC EB O OK .CO M/LAK E E L M O F D /
B A CK R O W : A ND R EW PLI N ER , AUS T I N EE S L E Y , MA T T O PP ELT , JE F F A LD R ID G E
FR O N T R OW: PAU L ED G E R TO N , M A L A CHI T H OM A S, D E R EK J O H N S ON
Austin Pavelka joins us as a fully certified fire fighter
paid-on-call, and an EMT; and also serves as fire fighter
for both the Lake Johanna Fire Department and the
Vadnais Heights Fire Department.
Passionate about the adrenaline rush, Pavelka got into
fire fighting in 2023 after his tour in the Minnesota
National Guard. He missed the camaraderie of
teamwork and says, “the best thing about my job is the
community relations aspect.” “Obviously I value the
relationship with coworkers, but working with residents;
helping families with their situations, that inspires me.”
When he’s not fighting fires or working as an EMT, you
can find Pavelka coaching high school kids at Concordia
Academy and working as a youth pastor at his church.
Welcome Austin Pavelka
