STAFF REPORT <br />DATE: November 19, 2024 <br /> CONSENT <br /> <br />TO: City Council <br />FROM: Dustin Kalis, Fire Chief <br />AGENDA ITEM: Approve Project Funding of Fire Department Historical Displays <br /> REVIEWED BY: Nicole Miller, City Administrator <br /> Dustin Kalis, Fire Chief <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br />With the consolidation of our two fire stations and the construction of the new City Center, the <br />construction project originally included project funding for various fire department historical <br />displays within the fire department areas of City Center. As the project continued, these historical <br />displays were eliminated from the project. The fire department historical display project is being <br />presented to complete these items that were unable to be completed within the original <br />construction project. <br /> <br />ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: <br />Should the City Council approve the project funding for the fire department historical displays? <br /> <br />PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: <br />The City Center project has provided the fire department a state-of-the-art facility that has greatly <br />improved the departments operations and response model. Since the project’s inception, one area <br />of concern from department staff was how we will incorporate our department rich history into our <br />new shared space. <br /> <br />The fire department historical display project will provide a combination of wall graphics, <br />photographs, artifacts displaying our departments history and an Honor Wall paying tribute our <br />charter members and all fire department staff serving 10 years or more. Portions of the displays will <br />allow for the change out of photographs and updated graphics when a refresh is needed. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />Through originally included in the City Center project as a budgeted line item, this proposed project <br />has an increased scope. Total project cost is not to exceed $15,000. This project will not use any <br />general fund funding. The project will be funded through donations the Fire Department has <br />received in 2024 and the Lake Elmo Fire Department Equipment and Project Fund. <br /> <br />OPTION: <br />1) Approve the fire department historical display project. <br />2) Deny the fire department historical display project. <br /> <br /> <br />
