ANNUALVACATION LEAVE – PAID TIME OFF (PTO) #235 <br /> <br />The city believes that time away from work is important to the health and well-being of our employees <br />and as such, provides vacation leave paid time off (PTO) for eligible employees. Vacation leave is not <br />intended to be used for absences related to personal illness or injury or any of the eligible uses outlined <br />in the Earned Sick and Safe Time policy. Vacation leave provides time away from the job for rest and <br />recharging. <br /> <br />Annual leave can be used for any reason, subject to existing request and approval procedures. As with <br />all paid time off programs, the city needs to ensure that service to the public and work requirements are <br />not adversely impacted. Vacation leave Paid time off (PTO) should be taken in fifteen (15) minute <br />increments. Career firefighters should take paid time offvacation leave in twenty-four (24) hour <br />increments. <br /> <br />REQUESTS <br />Employees will submit vacation requests through the city’s payroll system based on the following: <br />- Vacation requests of less than three (3) days must be requested as soon as reasonably <br />practicable, but at least three (3) calendar days in advance. <br />- Vacation requests of more than three (3) days should be requested at least fourteen (14) <br />calendar days in advance. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OR DENIAL <br />Vacation leave must be approved by the employee’s supervisor and may be denied due to inadequate <br />notice, the current business needs of the city, or interference with the city’s ability to perform public <br />service. <br /> <br /> <br />PTO Vacation hours are calculated and updated each biweekly pay period. An employee may not borrow <br />against future vacation PTO accruals or carry a negative vacation PTO balance. Employees may use PTO <br />in the same pay period in which it is earned. <br /> <br />AnnualVacation leave will not accrue during an unpaid leaves of absences. If a regularly scheduled <br />holiday falls during an employee’s vacation, it will not be considered vacation leave but holiday leave. <br /> <br />To determine an employee’s PTO vacation accrual rate, years of service will include all continuous time <br />that the employee has worked at the city (including authorized leave, but excluding time worked in a <br />temporary, seasonal position or internship). <br /> <br />Accrual Rates for AnnualVacation Leave <br /> <br />Years of Service AnnualVacation / Per Pay Period Accrual Rates <br /> 0-2 Years 76 123.50 hours/4.75 hours <br /> 3-5 years 108 156 hours /6.0 hours <br /> 6-10 Years 148 195 hours /7.50 hours <br /> 11-15 Years 174 221 hours/8.50 hours <br /> 16-24 Years 200 247 hours/9.5 hours <br /> 25 Years or More 212 260 hours/10 hours <br /> <br />Full-time employees will earn paid time off vacation leave in accordance with following the above <br />schedule.
