<br />Since 2019, PW management has added annual tasks new to this department which include more <br />administrative oversight, training, mapping, documenting and reporting. These new tasks include <br />directional water main flushing, water main gate valve exercising, sanitary jetting, lift station cleaning, <br />playground inspections, all city facility safety inspections, an internal safety committee, MS4 inspection <br />and maintenance program, a trail inspection and maintenance program an irrigation enforcement program, <br />an internal water meter replacement program, along with increasing the number of winter trails groomed, <br />asphalt trails cleared, the number of miles of roadways cleared , pot holes filled and ditches mowed in the <br />summer. <br /> <br />The number of water and sewer accounts since 2019 has doubled, adding more administrative work orders <br />related to meter installation, maintenance, leaks, and questions. The number of sanitary lift stations has <br />doubled since 2019, leading to more oversight with troubleshooting, resolving issues with electrical <br />controls, communications, alarms, mechanical failures both during and after hours, and added <br />administrative communications with contractors. With the additional miles of streets since 2019, leadership <br />has still managed to cut the annual winter road salt budget in half, but sees an increase in resident <br />communications regarding trees, sidewalks, curbs, signage, and road hazards. Since 2019 the city has added <br />128 acres of park land, many new amenities and has established a replacement program for failing <br />playgrounds and courts, these all added administrative tasks and time. <br /> <br />In summary, the increasing administrative workload of additional researching, planning, training, <br />supporting, reporting, responding, purchasing, and invoicing has made it impossible for the department to <br />keep up with the city's growth and requires additional help on the management side to ensure the department <br />keeps moving forward at the changing pace of growth of the city. <br /> <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />Depending on the specific supervisory or office position and its job description, the likely salary will be <br />between $75,000 to $95,000 <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Discuss Moving forward with a budget to support one new hire to assist Public Works Management in 2026 <br /> <br />
