8 <br />Summer 2013 <br />The City of Lake <br />Elmo has the hon- <br />or of being recog- <br />nized as a Min- <br />nesota GreenStep <br />City and will re- <br />ceive an award for advancing to become a Step 2 City by <br />completing seven best practices. The award will be recog- <br />nized at the upcoming League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) <br />2013 Annual Conference on June 20th. This award shows <br />community members and other cities across Minnesota <br />that Lake Elmo is taking great steps in the direction of <br />energy and resource conservation and innovation. <br />Minnesota GreenStep Cities is a challenge, assistance, <br />and recognition program. As one of 56 participating cit- <br />ies, Lake Elmo is helping to lead the way in sustainabil- <br />ity across the state of Minnesota. Lake Elmo has worked <br />hard to implement best practices in order to fulfill their <br />sustainability goals. Actions that are taken within the pro- <br />gram focus on cost savings, energy use reduction, and <br />the encouragement of civic innovation. <br />Details on the best practices the City has completed can <br />be seen by visiting www.MnGreenStep.org, clicking on <br />“See all cities” next to the map, and then clicking on the <br />Cityʹs name. This award is a great achievement for Lake <br />Elmo. By being part of a sustainability program, the 56 <br />GreenStep cities are helping to secure Minnesota’s natu- <br />ral beauty for the future while also helping the cities and <br />regions thrive economically and socially. <br />About GreenStep Cities: Minnesota GreenStep Cities is a <br />voluntary challenge, assistance and recognition program <br />to help cities achieve their sustainability and quality-of-life <br />goals. This free continuous improvement program, man- <br />aged by a public-private partnership, is based upon 28 <br />best practices. Each best practice can be implemented by <br />completing one or more actions at a 1, 2 or 3-star level, <br />from a list of four to eight actions.
