Dr. Paul Red Elk returns for
_ medicinal tree class Tuesday,
February 24
On Tuesday, February 24, at 6 p.m. we are
excited to welcome back to the Sally
Manzara Interpretive Nature Center, Dr. Paul
Red Elk, for the second class in his series on
Medicinal Trees. In each session,
Paul will discuss the habitat the trees are
found, the historical and modern medicine
of the trees and additional uses of the trees
beyond the medicine. This is a chance for
you to connect with an experienced and
well-educated native healer.
Sessions run January through April, two
Tuesday evenings each month, with a
different topic each session (see our website
calendar for specific dates and topics). The
topic for this session will be maple trees! The
cost is $50 per person/per session, and each
session is designed to be standalone, so you
can take any (and as many as) you like.
Visit Sally Manzara Interpretive Nature
Center [https://sminc-lake-elmo.orgL], to
learn more.
Simple Swaps to Reduce
plastic Use
If you missed this month's Plastic -Free
Challenge, don't worry! Here are some easy
swaps you can make today to reduce your
reliance on plastics.
• Use a reusable brush/roller instead of a
disposable one.
• Use wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets.
• Use beeswax wraps instead of plastic wrap.
• Use a metal safety razor instead of plastic,
disposable razors.
• Use bar soap instead of bottled liquid soap.
• Use Swedish dishcloths instead of paper
towels.
Although some may have slightly higher
upfront costs, they last longer which might
just save you money in the long run! Your
local bulk store can also offer more options
to reduce your plastic waste in daily food,
household item, and cosmetic purchases.
