UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA GENERAL EXTENSION DIVISION MINNEAPOLIS 14 CORRESPONDENCE STUDY DEPARTMENT OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR A NEW HOME STUDY COURSE SIMPLIFIED MUNICIPAL ACCOUNTING The League of Minnesota Municipalities and the University of Minnesota Correspondence Study Department announce a new correspondence course -- SIMPLIFIED MUNICIPAL ACCOUNTING. It is designed to be of interest and benefit to those having both a direct and indirect working relation with financial record -keeping at the local governmental level. It should be particularly helpful to those who have had little or no training or experience in elementary bookkeeping or accounting, but who find themselves con- fronted with problems related in some way to municipal financial records. The 12-lesson, non-credit course is based on the text, Simplified Municipal Accounting -- A Manual For Smaller Government Units, published by the Municipal Finance Officers Association. The various topic headings include: Principles of Accounting; Cash -Bank Reconcilements; Municipal Funds; Accounting For Receipts and Disbursements; The Balance Sheet; Accounts and Their Classification; Budgets; Municipal reports; Accounting For Redeemed Bonds and Coupons; Accounting For Special Assessments; Accounting For Liquor Stores; Miscellaneous Functions. All of these are explained and discussed and the student is taken step by step through the procedures by actual problems. SIMPLIFIED MUNICIPAL ACCOUNTING is open to anyone who can benefit from the content and instruction. The -tuition is $16 and there is an out-of- state registration fee of $3. The textbook costs $3. 25 and can be secured from the Nicholson Hall Bookstore or from the MFOA.
