UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA <br />GENERAL EXTENSION DIVISION <br />MINNEAPOLIS 14 <br />CORRESPONDENCE STUDY DEPARTMENT <br />OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR <br />A NEW HOME STUDY COURSE <br />SIMPLIFIED MUNICIPAL ACCOUNTING <br />The League of Minnesota Municipalities and the University of Minnesota <br />Correspondence Study Department announce a new correspondence course -- <br />SIMPLIFIED MUNICIPAL ACCOUNTING. It is designed to be of interest <br />and benefit to those having both a direct and indirect working relation with <br />financial record -keeping at the local governmental level. It should be <br />particularly helpful to those who have had little or no training or experience <br />in elementary bookkeeping or accounting, but who find themselves con- <br />fronted with problems related in some way to municipal financial records. <br />The 12-lesson, non-credit course is based on the text, Simplified Municipal <br />Accounting -- A Manual For Smaller Government Units, published by the <br />Municipal Finance Officers Association. The various topic headings <br />include: Principles of Accounting; Cash -Bank Reconcilements; Municipal <br />Funds; Accounting For Receipts and Disbursements; The Balance Sheet; <br />Accounts and Their Classification; Budgets; Municipal reports; Accounting <br />For Redeemed Bonds and Coupons; Accounting For Special Assessments; <br />Accounting For Liquor Stores; Miscellaneous Functions. All of these are <br />explained and discussed and the student is taken step by step through the <br />procedures by actual problems. <br />SIMPLIFIED MUNICIPAL ACCOUNTING is open to anyone who can benefit <br />from the content and instruction. The -tuition is $16 and there is an out-of- <br />state registration fee of $3. The textbook costs $3. 25 and can be secured <br />from the Nicholson Hall Bookstore or from the MFOA.
