Lake Elmo <br />Agenda Section: MAINTNANCE/PARK/FIRE/BUIDING: <br />No .7(A)2 <br />City Council <br />December 19, <br />2006 <br />Agenda Item: Command/First Response Vehicle <br />Background Information for December 19, 2006: <br />Staff is recommending the purchase of a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban, 4x4, 2500 from the State Contract. This includes <br />emergency lighting, markings, radio installation, and rear cargo storage tray and weather shield. <br />This vehicle will serve as a First Response/Command/Chiefs vehicle. Staff as well as the officers of the fire <br />department have explored many styles, makes and models of vehicles and have concluded that this vehicle is best <br />suited for the intended uses and to carry the necessary equipment. <br />It has also been recommended by staff that this vehicle be equipped with a plow. This idea was the result of <br />brainstorming sessions by staff. It was then discussed with and supported by public works staff. This vehicle would <br />be used primarily to plow the two fire stations and city hall, thus allowing public works staff to focus their time and <br />efforts on clearing city streets. Having the plow on the "First Response" vehicle would also us to clear unplowed <br />roads for access by emergency vehicles when responding to an emergency. In the event of a "major" snowstorm, it <br />could also be used to help public works with the timely clearing of city streets. <br />Purchase price - $53,520.37 (see attached spreadsheet) <br />Action Items: <br />Person responsible: <br />Motion to approve purchase of 2007 Chevrolet'/ ton Suburban <br />Chief Malmquist <br />with listed options for $53,520.37. <br />Attachments: <br />Pricing spreadsheet. <br />
