JOB DESCRIPTION <br />The Chief of the Lake Elmo Fire Department shall be responsible for all operations of the Department, which <br />shall include, but is not limited to administrative duties, training, coordination of vehicle, equipment and <br />facility maintenance, fire prevention, planning and organizing firefighting activities, conduct inspections of <br />new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with fire codes as well as local fire ordinances to minimize <br />loss of life and property and to act as fire department liaison with the city and general public. The Chief shall <br />be expected to serve as a leader of the Department, uphold, follow and enforce City Policies, Department <br />Policies, Department Standard Operating Guidelines and oversee all management functions of the <br />Department. Above and beyond all else, employee shall be required to respond to alarms. <br />This position is responsible for various duties within the Fire Department. These duties shall include, but are <br />not limited to <br />QUALIFICATIONS (must be met and maintained throughout term in position) <br />• High school education or equivalent. <br />• Minimum of 6 years firefighting experience. <br />• Firefighter II certification. <br />• Certified First Responder. <br />• Valid Minnesota Drivers License. <br />• Experience with Fire Inspection/Investigation. <br />• Has met the requirements of District Chief, (including Firefighter requirements, see Firefighter <br />Job Description). <br />�1 ! ! b ! t'. <br />• Knowledge of fire fighting equipment practices, principles, methods and techniques used in <br />modern fire suppression. <br />• Knowledge of and the ability to apply pertinent federal and state law and city ordinances. <br />• Knowledge of data privacy laws as they pertain to personnel records, reports and materials. <br />• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. <br />• Ability to learn and use computer programs, as well as other office equipment. <br />• Skilled in listening and problem solving. <br />• Must complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education outside the department annually. <br />
