(Home Occupations — Continued from Page 1)
Mayor Johnston submitted a letter regarding this issue which was shared with the
Commission on March 13. A copy is attached. The letter requests the Commission to
limit the scale of storage allowed with Home Based Businesses, and to provide for annual
licenses rather than the "one time issue" perpetual license.
The Commission recommendation is three -fold:
1. Amend Section 150 (Definitions) to repeal the existing "Home Occupation"
definition and add new definitions of "Home Office" and "Home Based
Business".
2. Amend Section 1110 to add a new Section 1115 — Licensing of Home Based
Businesses
3. Amend several sections of the Zoning Ordinance to repeal references to Home
Occupations and add references to Home Based Business and Home Office.
Rather than present the Commission -proposed strategy for Home Occupations in formal
ordinance format, we have here included that strategy in the very same format that was
seen by the Commission. It becomes a bit easier to follow without all of the formal
numbering etc. Should the Council determine that the Commission -recommended Code
modifications (or some similar iteration) be in the best interests of the City staff will
return with the formal ordinances at the next meeting.
